Washinomiya Shrine

This is the oldest grand shrine in Kanto. Washinomiya Shrine is said to have been possibly founded by descendants of the Izumo family due to its old nickname, Hazenomiya. Another theory is that it was established by Yamato Takeru 1900 years ago during the reign of Emperor Keikō. Washinomiya Saibara Kagura music and dance performance is a tradition unique to the shrine and is designated as an important intangible folk cultural property of Japan. The shrine also appears in the animation “Lucky Star”, and Washinomiya Shrine uses this connection to revitalize the area.
