Those seeking a unique way to experience the gorgeous natural surroundings of Nagatoro should check out the Nagatoro River Cruise. Take a short walk from Nagatoro Station down to the river bank, where boatmen await groups of 20 passengers to steer them down the Arakawa River. On the cruise you can get a close-up view of the rock cliff faces and foliage that border the river. Most of the cruise is quite tranquil, but there are some rapids along the way as well for a bit of excitement!

Nagatoro Iwadatami Rocks – Downstream boating
A boat ride down the Arakawa Line in Chichibu Nagatoro is the perfect outdoor activity regardless of the season, where you will ride over the beautifully-layered stone riverbed, which is designated as a natural monument. Enjoy the cherry blossoms in spring, the cool breeze in summer, the beautiful colors in autumn, or warm up under a kotatsu (heated table) in winter! You can relax while listening to the boatman’s entertaining speech, and though there are a few thrills along the way, be rest assured the ride is perfectly safe for children and senior to enjoy as well.

This street, beginning at Nagatoro Station and ending at the Iwadatami rocks, is lined with souvenir stores selling gifts perfect for you and your loved ones. After a day of boating and hiking, you can refuel at one of the many restaurants and try some of the tasty local cuisine. Miso potatoes and miso pork crepes are some of the popular bites available.
