About 250 of Japan’s largest handmade lanterns float along a one-kilometer stretch of the Furutone River in Sugito, creating a breathtaking sight said to resemble “the Milky Way having descended to earth.” Held every August, the festival also features performances and food stalls near Tobu Dobutsu Koen Station.
Take the Tobu Skytree Line (Tobu Isesaki Line) to Tobu-Dobutsu-Koen Station, exit via the East Exit, and walk about 2 minutes to the festival area along the Furutone River between Furukawa Bridge and Seiji Bridge.
Atarashii Mura, or The New Village, is an agriculture-themed tourist facility. Lastly, at the facility, "Noh no Ie," they host hands-on experiences and lectures on agriculture and food, offer facility rentals, and have an herb garden of more than 100 different species where hands-on harvesting experiences for lavender and mint are available. They also grown their own rice, a popular product.
The water at this hot spring, which flows from 1,500 meters underground, scored a maximum score of 5 out of 6 categories in the Japan Natural Hot Spring Examining Authority inspection! With a composition similar to salty seawater, it is also called “Netsu no Yu” (high temperature bath) due to the amount of cold water needed to cool it down. Another appeal is the fact that this hot spring can be enjoyed during the colder months without any added water. The high-concentration carbonated spring, which even garners the attention of the medical industry, can also be enjoyed.

Around 200 flowers bloom here during peak season. Based on analysis, this is an ancient variety of the lotus flower, and while the exact age cannot be determined, it is estimated to be a variety from the Heian period, around 1,200 years ago. The best time to see them is around early to late July, when the flowers begin to bloom at around 5AM. Since the pond is located in the middle of a residential area, please keep quiet when visiting.
