Konosu Bikkuri Hinamatsuri
event
Doll production in Konosu has a 400-year history, and continues to be a valuable local industry of Konosu to this day. The Konosu Bikkuri Hinamatsuri (Amazing Doll’s Day) has been held 21 times to date, while advertising the historical Konosu as “The Hometown of Hina Dolls ~Konosu~,” and encourages citizens to enjoy Hinamatsuri, brings many tourists from outside of the city and cheers up the town. The festival features the nationwide famous “Japan’s tallest Hina doll pyramid stand” (31 tiers and 7 meters tall) and other displays at satellite halls. Hinamatsuri, originally called “Joshi no Sekku,” is one of the five seasonal festivals, which developed from the spread of seasonal events to ward off evil spirits and through the custom of playing with hina dolls. In accordance with this, we continue to hold this festival to wish for good health and good fortune.
