Behind the precincts of Takaohikone Shrine in Tako, Yoshimi town, there is a rocky mountain with a great view. If you climb up the mountainside and stomp your feet, you will hear a clomping sound. There is a legend regarding this place that goes something like this. Once upon a time, there was a rich man who was looking for a place to hide his treasure. One day, he paid a visit to Takaohikone Shrine and asked for the best place to hide his treasure. The god told him, "Bury it in this rocky mountain. I will protect it for you." The man felt relieved and buried all his riches in the mountain. Today, as a remnant of this story, the rocky mountain is called Mount Ponpon and is said to be inhabited by a divine spirit.

About 12 million poppies are in full bloom on a vast slope 500 meters above sea level. The contrast between the red of the poppies and the clear blue sky is spectacular. During the blooming period, an event called "Poppies in the Sky" will be held, featuring gourmet food from the surrounding area, sales of local specialties, and the opening of a temporary parking lot. It started in 1182 when Hatakeyama Shigetada offered a statue of a devil holding an iron rod to protect people from evil during the construction of the Sugayayakata. A rare shrine that enshrines the “oni (devil)”, with a Setsubun Festival taking place every year on February 3rd, with chants of “Fuku wa uchi, Oni wa uchi, Akuma soto (Out with the bad spirits, in with the good fortune and oni/devil)”. In addition, the shrine is known as the god of victory, with soldiers praying for good fortune during war.

Harvesting can be experienced throughout the year with tomato and strawberry picking in the spring, eggplant and blueberry picking in the summer, chestnut picking and sweet potato digging in the autumn, and finally harvesting broccoli, onions, and radishes in the winter. Also, barbecue, camping (mess kit for rice making), and classes of Kazo City’s famous handmade udon are available. From late March to the end of November, there will be a stage show of popular characters among children such as Pretty Cure, Kamen Rider, Anpanman. On a day with clear weather, it will take place on the stage outside while on a rainy day, it will take place at the family building hall.

Miyoonzawa springs up in a wooded area on a steep slope along the Kurome river in the southern part of the city. It is a clear stream that has been selected by the Ministry of Environment as some of the most famous water in Japan. Miyoonzawa covers a stretch of about 100 m before it connects to and becomes part of the Kurome river. In this limited environment, you can find many rare creatures and plants that only can live in the cleanest of waters.

This park is a natural trail in the Tokyo metropolitan area. On the north side, you have Shimokubo Dam (Kanna Lake), and from spring to autumn, many flowers bloom, bringing joy to visiting tourists. In addition, about 600 winter cherry trees are planted in the park, which is a rare cherry blossom that blooms from late October to early December, creating a very special atmosphere. There are also campsites, restaurants, souvenir shops, BBQ-areas, observation decks, and more. A perfect place to enjoy a great day with the family!

This is the oldest grand shrine in Kanto. It is said to have been founded by descendants of the Izumo family because of its old nickname, Hazenomiya; another theory is that it was established by Yamato Takeru 1900 years ago in the time of Emperor Keikō. The Washimiya Saibara Kagura music and dance is a tradition in the shrine and is designated as an important intangible folk cultural property of the country. Furthermore, the shrine appears in the animation “Lucky Star”, and in turn, Washimiya shrine uses this work to revitalize the area.

A shell mound from the first half of the Jyōmon period (about 7,000 years ago). At this time in history, the climate was warmer and the ocean was more inland compared to now. The mound mainly consists of the Japanese basket clams that inhabit the brackish waters of the region, but there are also seashells of Japanese littleneck, common orient clam, and blood clam. The mound is located behind the Kannon statue in the 5th temple of the Adachi Bandō pilgrim route.

With an elevation of 305 meters, this charming little mountain is a familiar symbol of Hidaka City. There is a hiking course that offers a variety of ways to climb the mountain, including a gentle slope for the inexperienced and a rocky slope for the veteran climber. At the top of the mountain is a Japanese Hokyointo Pagoda, and you can enjoy the view of Hidaka City. On a clear day, you can also see the skyscrapers of Shinjuku and the Tokyo Sky Tree looming in the distance.

Our building is located in a place that has undergone a transition from the Kamakura period’s samurai’s palace, “Sugaya-yakata”, to the Sengoku period’s castle, “Sugaya-jō”. Opened as the Saitama Prefectural Historical Data Museum in April of 1976, and later in April 1st of 2006, based on the plan for reorganization and maintenance of the prefectural museum facility, documents related to the Sugaya-yakata along with the collection, storage, and research investigation of archaeological materials related to medieval historic sites such as the medieval castles were completed. Plotting its application, the museum was rebuilt with the purpose of contributing to the development of education, learning, and culture. At this time, the name of the building was changed from Saitama Prefectural Historical Data Museum to its current name. (For more information regarding the facility, please refer to the URL below)

The Iwadonokyūryō around the experience center mainly comes from the Toki River layer group, a stratum accumulated from 15 million to 10 million years ago, containing a wide range of fossils. The experience center is one of the only facilities within the prefecture in which the digging of fossils, such as 15 million-year-old shark teeth, can be experienced. Challenge yourself to dig up fossils using a sieve, hammer, and graver with a lecturer! Fossils you find, with some expectations, can be brought home. Since the digging of fossils takes place inside, this is a facility in which activities can be enjoyed even on rainy days.
